National Air and Space Museum – Dulles

Space Shuttle EnterpriseIn July of 2010, I got the chance to spend an afternoon at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. One afternoon was not long enough. So far it is my favorite air museum I have been to. There’s some pretty cool stuff there and a lot of history. The space shuttle Enterprise which was one of the highlights for me. The SR-71 on display set a speed record by flying from Los Angeles to Dulles in one hour four minutes and twenty seconds. Some of the other planes are Winnie Mae, the Enola Gay, a Concord, Bob Hoover’s Shrike Commander, Leo Loudenslager’s Laser 200, Art Scholl’s Chipmuck, and the Global Flyer. The museum also has a free shuttle bus that runs from Dulles airport to the museum ever hour. You can find more infomation at http://www.nasm.si.edu/udvarhazy/.
